About asylum and procedure

Asylum in Denmark
The Danish immigration laws have been tightened through the years, but the core remains: If you are persecuted and in need of protection, you can find it in Denmark. The responsibility to offer protection to refugees originates from the United Nations Refugee Convention, which Denmark has signed.

However, it is by no means easy to obtain asylum in Denmark. To be recognised as a refugee you must meet specific criteria. The fact that an asylum seeker has great troubles in his country of origin is not enough to be considered persecution according to the criteria of the Refugee Convention.
