DACAAR employee killed in Faryab province

Mohammad Qasim, a DACAAR Field Engineer, was killed this morning after the vehicle he was travelling in was caught in cross fire in Faryab province.

The attack happened at 11.10am when the vehicle carrying Mohammad Qasim and three other DACAAR staff members to a project site in Dara-e-Jawz village, Gurzewan district was caught up in cross fire between a Taliban group led by Mulla Akbar and a group of Junbush Militia. He died instantly at the scene. No other DACAAR staff members were injured in the incident.

Mohammad Qasim, who was 31 years old, had worked for DACAAR since July 2005. He leaves behind a wife and two children.

"Our thoughts are very much with the family of Mohammad Qasim and their tremendous loss", said Dr. Arif Qaraeen, Director of DACAAR. "This tragic death of a committed and respected employee has deeply shocked all DACAAR staff”, the Director went on to comment.

Mohammad Qasim was working on a project designed to provide safe water to communities living in Maymana, Pashtun Kot, Qaysar, Khwaja Sabz Posh and Gurzewan districts of Faryab province funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy.
