THE DRC DIASPORA FUND IS CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR APPLICATIONS

The Danida funded pilot project seeks to strengthen the diasporas’ involvement in rehabilitation and development in their former home countries. While it is true that the amounts sent every year to post conflict countries from migrants and refugees living in the wealthier parts of the World are enormous, it is believed that the developmental effects of these transfers could be significantly strengthened.

Through establishing the “DRC Diaspora Fund” that diaspora groups in Denmark can apply to for funding, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) wishes to tap into the energy, expertise and cultural knowledge of these groups, while at the same time coupling development funding to the diasporas’ own economic transfers.

The pilot phase focuses on Somalia and Afghanistan as these countries have a large diaspora in Denmark, and due to the fact that DRC and the Danish Committee for Aid to Afghan Refugees (DACAAR) are able to monitor the implementation of the diaspora led projects in these countries.
