Training and capacity development

As part of the overall objective, the DRC Stand-by Roster wish to continuously develop the skills of its members. This objective is achieved through training the members at either DRC training or UN trainings and through the Mentor Programme.

The DRC training programme consists of five different trainings:

  • DRC Stand-by Roster Induction Training: A three-day mandatory training with the purpose to introduce new members of the DRC Stand-by Roster to the DRC and the Roster, present key UN partner organizations and prepare the members to work as DRC-deployed to the UN.  This is the last step of the recruitment process and serves to assess the new members’ individual capabilities and skills.

  • Protection Training: A three-day training to introduce the members of the DRC Stand-by Roster to protection in different scenarios such as; acute emergencies, protracted emergencies, post conflict and longer-term rehabilitation in both refugee and IDP settings. The training is mainly for members with previous protection experience and the aim is to develop and discuss hands-on approaches when working with protection in emergencies.

  • Durable Solutions and Early Recovery training: The purpose is to introduce members of the DRC Stand-by Roster to concepts and tools in the work with durable solutions in situations of forced displacement.

  • Mini Workshop for Emergency Managers (Mini WEM): The aim is to better prepare members of the DRC Stand-by Roster as well as DRC Programme staff to stressful working conditions in emergency or repatriation operations.

  • Camp Management and Camp Coordination training (CCCM): The objective is to strengthen the camp management profiles of the DRC Stand-by Roster and extend the Cluster Cooperation with UNHCR.

In addition, DRC Stand-by Roster collaborates with all the UN Partners as well as other Emergency Rosters on relevant training modules. Hence, DRC Emergency Roster Experts will be offered specialised training within their field of profession provided by the UN Partners:

  • UNHCR:  Emergency Management, Protection

  • OCHA: Comprehensive introduction to OCHA, its work and mandate

  • UNICEF: Protection of the Child, Communication

  • WFP: Logistics training, Communication.
