Change Agents graduation ceremony in Liberia

About 60 Change Agents trained by DRC are about to give an impetus to the development of their community.

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) in Harper, South East Liberia, is holding a graduation ceremony for 60 Change Agents on September 11, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Catholic pastoral center in Harper. After 41 days of training, 60 Change Agents are about to receive their graduation.

The training which lasted 41 days aimed at:

  • Enabling participants to acquire a clear understanding of their role as catalysts working in their famer groups as well as in the wider community
  • Developing participants’ social and human skills in communication, facilitation, group decision-making, leadership and working with other poor groups
  • Developing participants’ ability to criticize others constructively and sympathetically and to be able to appreciate and handle criticism of themselves
  • Developing participants’ skills in identifying and analyzing the issues and problems that affect poor people
  • Developing participants’ skills in assisting poor rural people to organize and operate their own self-governing farmer groups using basic record keeping, bookkeeping, profitability analysis etc.
  • Enabling participants to acquire planning skills.

The 60 Change Agents who have just completed their training are the first two of four groups of 30 each to receive that training in Liberia. The last two groups will immediately start their training after the graduation ceremony. The Change Agents concept was devised by Executive Support Service from Uganda.

The ceremony will take place in the presence of the superintendent, the city major, international Agencies and NGOs(UNHCR, Merlin, WFP, IBIS, UNDP) and friends and family members of the graduates as well as the whole community.

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been working in Liberia since 1998. In more than 10 years of presence in South East Liberia and in Nimba County, DRC has been providing protection and durable solutions to refugees and conflict affected people. DRC is also present in Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea.
