Category: Asia, Press releasesDACAAR is pleased to announce that two employees held hostage for nine days have been released. The two DACAAR staff members, a driver and a skilled labourer, were kidnapped in Logar province by unknown gunmen on Sunday 30 September, while on their way home after wrapping up a DACAAR water and sanitation project.
“It is a huge relief to the entire DACAAR organisation that our two colleagues are finally released and on their way home to their families. Both men are in good health and have been treated reasonably well by the kidnappers”, said Dr. Arif Qaraeen, DACAAR’s director.
“DACAAR would like to thank all individuals and organisations that have been involved in resolving this kidnapping. DACAAR has worked for many years in Logar province in cooperation with the local population to provide safe drinking water and improved sanitation. This close relationship with local people has no doubt contributed to the quick and peaceful conclusion of the kidnapping”, the director added.
DACAAR currently implements water and sanitation projects together with rural development projects in 17 provinces throughout Afghanistan.
