The incident is now being investigated by the local authorities in Jaffna. The victim was 26 year old, working on various humanitarian relief projects in the Jaffna area.

“We are all shocked by this tragic event,” says Thomas Thomsen, Acting Head of the International Department of the Danish Refugee Council. “Our thoughts are with his family in this difficult situation, especially his wife whom he married very recently.”

The Danish Refugee Council has for several years being running a programme in support of the return and reintegration of internally displaced people in Northern Sri Lanka. The office in Jaffna was opened in March this year and is planning to implement a large humanitarian relief programme in the coming months.
