Category: Middle East, Relief workFollowing a grant from the Danish Foreign Ministry, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is expanding its emergency aid to internally displaced people (IDPs) in Western Beirut and Mount Lebanon.
The IDPs primarily need food, blankets, matresses, cooking utensils and hygiene items.
"The IDPs left their homes in a hurry and carry nothing with them. Their needs are endless. The new grant means that we can expand our operation here and now," says Ann Mary Olsen, deputy head of International Department at the DRC.
Before the current conflict, the DRC worked with non-ID Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.
Now the focus is on emergency aid to IDPs and recruitment of professional staff to UNHCR, WFP og OCHA. The DRC coordinates its operations with the UN in Lebanon.
