Road accident in Iraq

The Danish Demining Group in Iraq is mourning after loosing four colleagues in a car accident on Sunday. The four national staff members and the driver of the car deceased in the accident that furthermore left four staff members injured.

Eight national employees with the Danish Demining Group, DDG, in Iraq were travelling to work from Nassiriyah to Basrah in a rented vehicle with a private driver, when their car was involved in an accident on Sunday.

“The program is heavily affected by this tragic accident, and everybody has been given a few days off to mourn,” says Fredrik Pålsson, Global Safety adviser with the DDG.

The accident resulted in the death of four DDG staff members and four staff injured. In addition the driver, a friend to the DDG staff, died in the accident. It appears that the injured staff, although seriously injured, will make full recovery.

“We are in contact with the families and have conveyed our condolences and support during this difficult time,” Fredrik Pålsson says.
