The DRC Stand-by Roster is open for all qualified candidates.
The DRC Stand-by Roster is open for receiving applications twice a year. The exact periods are determined based on continuous evaluation of the need for new members.
Starting 2012 a division will be made between applications for the Roster in general and for the Mentor Programme.
The recruitement period for general membership of the DRC Stand-by Roster will be from 2nd-15th April 2012 during which a link for online application will be available on this page.
If you wish to apply for the Mentor Programme, applications will be accepted in the period from 19th-25th March 2012. During this period a link for online application will be available on this page. Only applications for the Mentor Programme will be considered during this recruitment period.
Recruitment process
All applications are carefully scrutinized to ensure that the applicants meet the level of skills and qualifications needed.
Working as a DRC deployee with the UN requires a high degree of independence and expertise. The deployee must possess the ability to work in other cultures, be ready to work long hours under stressful conditions and still maintain flexibility and professionalism.
The following qualifications are taken into consideration as a requirement:
- Professional experience matching Roster profiles
- Relevant educational background
- Proficiency in one (preferable two) languages, typically English and French or Arabic
- UN working experience
- A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant working experience on P3 level
- Experience in humanitarian, emergency relief assistance
- Knowledge and understanding of the complexity related to refugee and IDP situations
- Stand-by Roster Membership Obligations
Applicants are furthermore assessed on their general language skills, experience with cluster coordination and against the need of the Stand-by Roster for specific professional profiles.
Selected applicants are invited for an interview – personal or by phone. The interviews last approximately 45 minutes and the goal is to elaborate on the relevant working experience, discuss the candidate’s profile and address other relevant issues.
Subsequently to the interview, the given referees are contacted in order to obtain their assessments of the applicant.
When all references are obtained the final decision is made by the head of the Stand-by Roster and the applicant is informed of acceptance or rejection.
