Danish Refugee Council

Training and capacity development

As part of the overall objective, the DRC Stand-by Roster wish's to continuously develop the skills of its members. This objective is achieved through training of members at either DRC training or UN trainings and through the Mentor Programme.

The DRC training programme consists of three different trainings:

  • DRC Stand-by Roster Induction Training: A three-day mandatory training with the purpose to introduce new members of the DRC Stand-by Roster to the DRC and the Roster, present key UN partner organizations and prepare the members to work as DRC-deployed to the UN.  This is the last step of the recruitment process and serves to assess the new members’ individual capabilities and skills.

  • Protection Training: A three-day training to introduce the members of the DRC Stand-by Roster to protection in different scenarios such as; acute emergencies, protracted emergencies, post conflict and longer-term rehabilitation in both refugee and IDP settings. The training is mainly for members with previous protection experience and the aim is to develop and discuss hands-on approaches when working with protection in emergencies.
  • Cluster Coordination Training: A five-day training on skills needed to facilitate and lead clusters in the field and on country levels. The training's focus is on building soft skills, i.e. the techniques and approaches to navigate and steer humanitarian coordination. It also entails sessions specifically on the cluster approach as a system with emphasis on challenges, good practices and knowledge-sharing among participants. The training targets individuals with knowledge of and experience with working within clusters.

In addition, DRC Stand-by Roster collaborates with all the UN Partners as well as other Emergency Rosters on relevant training modules. Hence, DRC Stand-by Roster Experts will be offered specialised training within their field of profession provided by the UN Partners.
