19 August has been named World Humanitarian Day by the United Nations. The day is dedicated to creating awareness of humanitarian aid workers, their achievements in the field, and the conditions under which they work.
Danish Refugee Council is one of the international humanitarian aid agencies working in support of people suffering from the consequences of war and armed conflicts around the world. The work carried out in line with the vision of the Danish Refugee Council is effectively turned into reality by all of our committed staff in the field – those who make the real difference where it is needed.
It is the second time that this day is marked instituted by the UN in December 2008 to “contribute to increasing public awareness about humanitarian work and the importance of international cooperation, and to commemorate all humanitarian and United Nations and associated personnel who have worked in the promotion of the humanitarian cause, and those who have lost their lives in the course of duty.”
Despite long distances between headquarters of the Danish Refugee Council in Copenhagen and all staff members in the field, we would like to use this day to reach out to you and to thank you all for your commitment to the good work you carry out.
Best wishes for the World Humanitarian Day 2010 from
Andreas Kamm
